Diddy Addresses 2016 Assault on Cassie, Takes Full Responsibility

In a heartfelt video posted on Sunday morning, Diddy opened up about the 2016 assault on his then-girlfriend, Cassie. Speaking directly to the camera, Diddy reflected on his actions, admitting, “I was f*ed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom.”** He described the difficulty of confronting his darkest moments and acknowledged the need for accountability.

Diddy did not shy away from the incident, where surveillance footage showed him attacking Cassie at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. The video, obtained by CNN, captured Diddy chasing Cassie down a hallway, grabbing her by the neck, throwing her to the ground, and then kicking and dragging her.

In his video, Diddy stated, “I take full responsibility for my actions. There are no excuses for my behavior.” He revealed that the incident led him to seek professional help, including therapy and rehab. “I had to ask God for his mercy and grace,” he added, emphasizing his efforts to change and heal.

He concluded with an apology, “I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.” Notably, he did not directly apologize to Cassie, making the video appear more as an apology to the public.

Despite the assault, Diddy and Cassie continued their on-and-off relationship for two years, even attending a Hollywood premiere together just two days after the incident. Cassie described the attack in a sexual assault lawsuit filed in November, which they settled a day later. Diddy’s attorney stressed that the settlement was not an admission of guilt, and Diddy denied all allegations.
