The daughter of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, has spoken out after the United Kingdom court sentenced her parents for their involvement in an organ-harvesting plot. In a poignant response, Sonia Ekweremadu expressed her disbelief and sorrow over the events that have unfolded, stating that her family may never be the same again.
Sonia, who is 25 years old, spoke to the BBC about the impact that her parents’ actions and subsequent sentencing have had on her life. She revealed that she feels guilty and that she believes that her actions may have contributed to her family’s current situation.
She spoke about the rapid changes that life can bring, saying, “Life is just some dynamic. Like you’re one day in your house chilling and the next day your whole life is turned around.”
The UK court sentenced Ike Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months imprisonment, while his wife received a sentence of four years and six months for attempting to harvest a kidney from an underage Nigerian to aid their daughter’s health. Dr Obinna Obeta, a medical doctor who was also involved in the crime, received a 10-year sentence for his role in facilitating organ harvesting.
It is important to note that organ harvesting is illegal and immoral, and those involved in such crimes should face justice. The sentencing of Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr Obinna Obeta sends a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated.
However, it is also important to consider the impact that such crimes have on innocent family members who may have had no knowledge or involvement in the wrongdoing. Sonia Ekweremadu’s response highlights the emotional toll that such situations can have on families and loved ones.
