Premier League defending champions Manchester City are ready to begin talks with the representatives of Brighton defender Marc Cucurella, who is viewed as a very good option at left-back.
Cucurella has been a very key figure for the Seagulls this season and he has quickly become one of the main players under Graham Potter. Cucurella is well known for his excellent crossing abilities, 1v1 attacking and defending prowess, and also becoming a utility player as well, having featured at centre-back in brief spells this season.
Brighton have been in the bubble for finishing amongst the best ten clubs in the Premier League this season and the club are looking forward to the summer when they will have the opportunity to make new signings to bolster their squad.
Manchester City have only Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko as their left-back, with Joao Cancelo and Nathan Ake making appearances in that position as well. City have decided to sign another left-back and it is most likely that Cucurella will be the one they will land in the summer. The Cityzens had earlier this season contacted Ajax defender Nico Tagliafico but the Argentine is yet to make up his mind.
Manchester City have thus turned their attention to Cucurella whom the club has found it easy to monitor as he plays in England. The 23-year-old is seen as a younger option who can possibly stay for a longer period than Tagliafico. Discussions are soon to be underway and Cucurella’s agent will be listening to City’s proposal in a few weeks’ time.
The Manchester club are considering a £25m deal for Cucurella and the contract structure will be a five-year deal that will see his salary rise as the years roll by. A meeting is set to be scheduled soon but the date remains unknown for now. Cucurella’s agent will be meeting with the Brighton board in order to negotiate the possible transfer to Manchester.
Cucurella was voted the Brighton’s player of the season last week on the club’s award night. The Spain U-23 defender has been phenomenal, scoring a beaut in the Seagulls 4-0 over Manchester United a few days before the award night. Zambian midfielder Enoch Mwepu won the goal of the season at the club, summarising the ceremony that evening. Cucurella is yet to give any updates on his future but it is likely this will be done in the course of the summer.
