The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) has called on eligible Nigerians to participate in the upcoming voting exercise in a peaceful and orderly manner.
During a briefing in Lagos, CPPM Convener Nelson Ekujumi stated that citizens should vote for their preferred candidates to strengthen democracy and ensure the continued progress and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ekujumi emphasized that CPPM’s appeal to Nigerians is based on their responsibility as societal watchdogs and democrats who seek to deepen democracy by advocating for citizens’ active involvement in the electoral process. Despite acknowledging the discomfort and distress caused by the implementation of the Naira redesign policy, he urged Nigerians not to lose hope and to remain calm and peaceful with faith in democracy.
The Convener warned against undemocratic elements who seek to exploit the situation and incite violence that could disrupt the democratic process. He urged Nigerians to persevere and stay committed to democratic participation for the greater good of society, despite any provocation.
“We encourage Nigerians to be hopeful that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “We urge Nigerians to continue to persevere and not pander to the antics of undemocratic elements whose motive is to take advantage of the prevailing situation to lure citizens to violence which could truncate the democratic process. We earnestly admonish Nigerians to be committed to sustaining the momentum of democratic participation for the collective good of the society; no matter the provocation.”
