Yobe Police Arrests Couple for Impersonation and Motorcycle Robbery

In a recent development, the Yobe Police Command has successfully apprehended a couple, Abdullahi Ibrahim, 21, and Khadija Ali, 20, for their alleged involvement in the theft of a motorcycle belonging to a Muslim cleric in the Fika Local Government Area of Yobe. The incident was brought to light in an official statement issued by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesperson, based in Damaturu.

According to Abdulkarim, the suspects approached the Muslim cleric on June 4 under the guise of wanting to convert to Islam. They introduced themselves as Jude Emmanuel, a Birom man from Farar-Kasa in Barkin Ladi, Plateau, and his wife, Peace Sunday. Subsequently, they were accepted into the faith and placed under the care and guidance of the Chief Imam in Fika local government area.

However, their ulterior motives soon became apparent. Just a day after being welcomed into the Islamic community, Abdullahi Ibrahim approached the Imam, stating that he required ashes from a location struck by thunder to prepare a medicinal concoction for his supposed ailments. Showing concern for his welfare, the Imam assigned one of his sons to accompany Abdullahi to a nearby bush to collect the requested dust.

On the third day, Abdullahi requested the same favor, this time to gather dust for his wife. Without any suspicion, the Imam agreed and instructed his son to assist them by using his motorcycle to reach the desired location. Once they arrived at the spot, the couple revealed their true intentions. Seizing the opportunity, they robbed the Imam’s son of his motorcycle and swiftly made their escape.

Realizing the severity of the situation, the Imam promptly reported the incident to the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters, initiating an immediate investigation to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the police, a breakthrough occurred on July 1 when they received information that the couple had been sighted in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, where they were allegedly planning to commit a similar crime.

Acting swiftly, on July 5 at approximately 1400 hours, detectives from the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters reacted to the tip-off and successfully apprehended Abdullahi Ibrahim and Khadija Ali. Subsequent preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects are natives of Yobe State.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim stated that during interrogations, the couple confessed to engaging in various criminal activities, including robbery and abduction, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

The Yobe Police Command has assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to uncover any potential involvement of the suspects in other criminal activities. The arrested individuals will be prosecuted accordingly, in line with the law, to ensure justice is served and deter others from engaging in similar acts of criminality.

This incident serves as a reminder for individuals and communities to remain vigilant and exercise caution when encountering unfamiliar individuals, emphasizing the importance of verifying identities and intentions before placing trust in strangers.
