Nigerian singers, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, and AG Baby won the Awards on Sunday, January 15th at the AFRIMA.
The ceremony, which took place in Dakar, Senegal, recognized the best in African music from the past year.
Burna Boy took home two awards, winning Best Act in Africa as well as Best Album of the Year. He beat out competition from South Africa’s Kabza De Small and Cote D’Ivoire’s Didi B to claim the awards. Didi B did win the Song of the Year Award.
Wizkid received the award for Best Act in West Africa, while Davido won Best Male Act in African Inspirational Music.
Adekunle Gold, who collaborated with Davido on the song titled High, won two awards, Best Act Group in African contemporary music and Best Act, Duo, or Group in African Pop.
Guinean singer Manamba Kanye was named Best Female Act in West Africa.
The awards ceremony, held at the 15,000-capacity Dakar Arena, was the culmination of a four-day event celebrating African music superstars. Performances by Ghana’s Black Sheriff and Nigeria’s PSquare entertained the crowd throughout the night.
