President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Abike Dabiri-Erewa as chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for a second term in office.
The president’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday during the floor session of the upper legislative chamber.
Dabiri-Erewa is a pioneer chair of the NiDCOM, which is located within the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before serving as the chair, she worked as the senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora. Additionally, she was a former member of the national assembly representing the Ikorodu constituency in Lagos.
In another letter read by Lawan, President Buhari urged the Senate to appoint six commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). The nominees are Ayogu Eze from Enugu State, Peter Opara from Imo State, Hauwa Aliyu from Jigawa State, Tanko Ayuba Haruna from Kebbi State, Ismaila Mohammed from Kwara State, and Kolawole Daniel Abimbola from Oyo state.
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is responsible for monitoring revenue accruals into and disbursement of revenue from the Federation Account.
It also determines the remuneration of political officeholders and monitors the collection and disbursement of revenue from the federation account to the three tiers of government.
