Buhari, Obaseki Condole With Ighodalo As Wife Dies

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock upon hearing the news of the death of Ibidun, wife of Ituah Ighodalo, a popular Lagos businesswoman and senior pastor of Trinity House Church, Lagos.

Ibidun, a former beauty queen, died in the early hours of Sunday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state — a month to her 40th birthday. It was suspected she died of cardiac arrest.

As an event planner, she was said to have been in Bayelsa and Rivers states to help with the building of isolation centres for COVID-19 patients.

Her husband, Ituah, who officiated at a funeral on Sunday, hinted his listeners on the death.

“A lot of you know that I really shouldn’t be here. But that is how life is. Around 2’oclock this morning, I received a call that shattered my life, but life must go on,” he said.

A statement by the couple’s families confirmed the sad news.

“The Ighodalo and Olaleye Ajayi families are deeply saddened to announce the sudden loss of our beloved wife and daughter, Mrs Ibidunni Ituah-Ighodalo, who passed away in the early hours of today (Sunday).

“As you will understand, this is a difficult time for our families and we will appreciate some privacy during this time,” the statement said.

The news of her death was one of the trending topics in Nigeria on Twitter, as many people, including celebrities, paid tributes to her.

Meanwhile, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday commiserated with Pastor Ituah Ighodalo.

In a statement, Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media, said Buhari shares in the pain and sorrow of the family and prays for God’s comfort for the entire family, friends and members of the church.

He said the president recalls that Ighodalo is one person who faithfully prays for the country and the government.

He said the pastor sent him a personal letter of condolence when Abba Kyari, his former chief of staff, passed away in April.

“Please accept my condolence. May God give you the fortitude to bear the loss, and strengthen you at this trying time,” the president said.

Also, Edo State Governor, Gowin Obaseki, and his wife, Betsy, in a statement said, “Ibidunni was one of the finest among us; she was full of life and gave herself to causes that edified life and living.”
