The President, Mohammadu Buhari has lauded the Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey Effiong, popularly known as Hilda Baci, who broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual.
The President commended Hilda Baci for her remarkable achievement, which has placed Nigeria on the global culinary map.
Hilda Baci embarked on her extraordinary culinary journey with a 4-day “Cook-a-thon” marathon challenge, starting on Thursday, May 11. The event took place at the beautiful Amore Gardens located in the vibrant Lekki area of Lagos State.
By 08:32 am on Monday morning, the 27-year-old chef had already surpassed the previous record set by Indian chef Lata Tondon in 2019. Lata Tondon held the record for cooking for an astonishing 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds. Hilda Baci’s cooking time had reached an impressive 88 hours and 32 minutes, equaling Tondon’s feat.
As of the time of writing this report, Hilda Baci had cooked for an incredible 91 hours, showcasing her unwavering dedication and passion for her craft.
The young chef is scheduled to complete her cooking marathon on Monday at 4 pm, culminating in an extraordinary achievement that will etch her name in culinary history.
Reacting President Buhari, through his spokesman Bashir Ahmad, released a statement on Monday, expressing his admiration for Hilda Baci’s accomplishment.

“The President lauds the young culinary expert for turning her talent and passion into a career, with a rippling effect on the economy as she runs a restaurant in Lagos, trains other talents on entrepreneurship, and now leads the world in resilience, perseverance, and consistency in cooking,” the statement read.
