All commercial banks in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, have temporarily closed their operations. Upon visiting various bank locations such as Oba Adesida road and Alagbaka, it was discovered that all banks were locked.

Customers were seen waiting outside some of the banks, with one of them, Jimoh, stating that he arrived as early as 7:30am. According to Jimoh, the banks’ security personnel informed them that the closures were a result of security concerns.

In Ikare-Akoko, the commercial hub of Akoko Northeast local government area, banks also remained closed for business. This caused disappointment for farmers and traders who traveled from nearby towns like Ikakumo, Afin Ipesi, Igasi, and Eriall for banking transactions.

A local businessman, Sunday Omogboye, who had come from Ikakumo to collect money, expressed his frustration over the lack of cash in the villages. Meanwhile, another customer in Akure mentioned that he was at the bank in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy.
