Birmingham club Aston Villa have completed the signing of Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille for a figure reported being around £17m for a five-year contract. The midfielder was formerly a Liverpool junior player before he made the switch to his native land to join Marseille.
Kamara has been a specter for a host of clubs in Europe, with Manchester United and Leeds well in the race to sign the 22-year-old. Boubacar Kamara plays for the France U-23s and is yet to be called up by national team coach Didier Deschamps and this transfer may well be an opening to getting called up to the Les Blues senior squad.
Kamara arrived today at Bodymoor Heath, Villa’s training centre and he was announced as a new Lion. The young Frenchman is well known for playing as a holding midfielder and also on some occasions as a centre-back. Boubacar Kamar is well versed in breaking up play from the midfield and also possesses a high rate of ball retention.
The former Marseille man has been spoken highly of by Steven Gerrard who is recruiting a good number of players ahead of next season. Boubacar Kamara was convinced that Villa was the right club for him when he spoke to Gerrard. ”There were a lot of clubs coming, but once Gerrard called, I knew Aston Villa was the right club for me,” he said during a private interview.
Aston Villa are now working to sign Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal as personal terms have been agreed between his representatives and Aston Villa. Coutinho is happy about the prospects of Aston Villa and is ready to impress the manager as he is very interested in working under Gerrard in the near future.
The West Midlands club are starting transfer business early as they are eager to travel for pre-season with their new signings to gel with the squad properly. Boubacar Kamara is brought on board to solve the issues at defensive midfield and to also give Brazil international Douglas Luiz a run for his money as the Brazilian is set to leave the club if the right offer comes this summer.
