Articulated Truck Carrying Foreign Wood Catches Fire on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

On Sunday, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, a loaded articulated truck carrying foreign wood caught fire at the Enugu-Agidi junction in Anambra State. According to reports, the accident occurred around 2:29 pm and was a result of the truck driver losing control of the vehicle.

Thankfully, no lives were lost in the crash, but the inferno caused extensive damage to the lorry and its contents. The State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident, stating that his team was able to control the fire shortly after arriving at the scene.

Engr Martin Agbili went on to explain that the Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call at approximately 2:29 pm on Sunday, March 19th, 2023, about a fire outbreak at the Enugu-Agidi junction opposite Zim Zam Hotel along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on a 911 lorry carrying foreign woods. Immediately, the fire service deployed its fire truck and firefighters to the location to begin the proper fire fighting operation.

It was later determined that the fire originated from the road crash as the lorry driver lost control of the steering. Fortunately, no lives were lost during the road crash or fire outbreak. The Anambra State Fire Service deserves recognition for their swift response and successful control of the fire.
