With the release of iOS 15.5, Apple’s newest iPhone operating system, it looks like they’re trying to appease regulators who want to make sure Apple doesn’t have too much control over in-app purchases while still maintaining total control over user-facing enhancements.
Apple released an update to the iOS 15.5, which includes the ability to request or send money, as well as a setting in the Apple Podcasts app that adds limitations on the number of episodes stored on your phone. The new update also resolves various bugs in the iOS release.
The full release notes read:

Wallet now enables Apple Cash customers to send and request money from their Apple Cash card

Fixes an issue where home automations, triggered by people arriving or leaving, may fail
Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website:
Apple has made a new update for iOS and macOS that includes fixes for the Apple Studio Display monitor’s poor webcam quality. In our test with the beta version of macOS, we found that webcam performance is still far from perfect, but in our tests, we found that the update has improved contrast, reduced visible noise, and boosted color accuracy. We will retest the camera software now that it’s final to see if any improvements have been done.
One of the few visible changes in iOS 15.5 is references to external purchases, which would enable developers to link their apps to external payment systems. Apple generally requires developers to use its in-app purchase system for digital transactions, but it’s facing pressure from regulators and some countries.
Apple will be announcing the next update to iOS at its annual developer conference. [Instructions] on how to update your iPhone can be found on Apple’s site.
