In a strong show of support and unity, leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have unequivocally reaffirmed Adegboyega Oyetola, the immediate past governor of the state, as the leader of the party in the state. The endorsement took place on Friday at a gathering attended by party members from the four Local Government Council Areas of Ijesa-South Federal Constituency.
The party members emphasized that the party constitution clearly outlines the position of party leadership in the state, and they firmly believe in adhering to its provisions. Addressing journalists on behalf of the party leadership at the APC Secretariat in Ilesa East local government, Johnson Ajilore, a former Vice Chairman, clarified the party’s stance on the issue.
Ajilore stated, “On the issue of leadership of our party in Osun State, our great party constitution states, ‘The Governor shall be the leader of the party,’ and Gboyega Oyetola held the position of Governor until November 2022. Therefore, he is technically our leader. While both the Minister and the National Secretary of our party, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Iyiola Omisore, respectively, are leaders at the national level, Oyetola leads the party in the state.”
He further addressed the composition of the Repositioning Committee, explaining that the Osun Progressives (TOP) caucus, which existed at the time the committee was formed, had been dissolved by the party leaders. As a result, capable and trustworthy individuals were selected to objectively carry out the challenging task of revitalizing the party and restoring it to its former glory.
Commenting on the leadership of the party in Ijesa-South Federal Constituency, Ajilore expressed the unanimous support of all party members for Elder Kunle Odeyemi as the rightful leader. He emphasized that no genuine party member could oppose the choice made by the constituency.
“We, as party members and stakeholders from the various local governments in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, firmly believe that politics is local everywhere. Therefore, we have complete confidence in the current leadership of the party in Ijesa-South Federal Constituency, headed by Elder Kunle Odeyemi,” Ajilore concluded.
The endorsement of Adegboyega Oyetola as the leader of the APC in Osun State reflects a unified front within the party and highlights the commitment of its members to the principles and provisions of the party constitution. With this display of solidarity, the APC in Osun State aims to forge ahead and strengthen its position as a formidable political force in the region.
