APC Gubernatorial Candidate Rejects Delta State Election Result
Senator Omo-Agege

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Delta State, has rejected the declaration of Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship and House of Assembly elections held on March 18, 2023.

On Monday, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Georgewill Owuneri, announced that Oborevwori had won the election with a total of 360,234 votes, beating Omo-Agege, who scored 240,229 votes, and the LP candidate, who polled 48,047 votes.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sunny Areh, and made available to the press on Monday, Omo-Agege claimed that the election was characterized by fraud and other infractions. He alleged that the PDP had engaged in massive vote buying and voter suppression during the election.

The senator stated that the PDP’s victory was “damning and daring” and could not be accepted in any decent society. He argued that the APC had won two out of the three senatorial zones in the state during the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, indicating an unequivocal rejection of the PDP by the people of Delta State.

Omo-Agege vowed to challenge the result of the election using all legal means available to him. He urged his supporters and the people of Delta State to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. The senator expressed confidence that the “electoral heist” would be reversed, and he would be sworn in as the lawfully elected Governor of Delta State on May 29, 2023.

“We will challenge this fraudulent result using all legal means. As a democrat and Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege will explore all lawful avenues to reclaim the mandate freely given to him by the good people of Delta State,” the statement read.

The APC candidate called on INEC officials and security agencies involved in the conduct of the election to take note of the irregularities and act accordingly. He also promised to provide incontrovertible evidence of the election malpractice in due course.

In conclusion, Senator Omo-Agege’s rejection of the result of the Delta State governorship election underscores the importance of free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria. It is hoped that the authorities will address the issues raised and ensure that the will of the people is upheld.
