The AIU, an independent body responsible for ensuring integrity in athletics, made the announcement through a statement on its official Twitter account on Wednesday.

According to the statement released by the AIU, it stated that, “The AIU confirms that it has today charged and provisionally suspended Tobi Amusan (NGR) for 3 Whereabouts Failures. The Charge will be heard by the Disciplinary Tribunal and determined before the World Athletics Championships.”

Amusan had earlier taken to her social media pages to disclose the charges brought against her by the AIU. The 26-year-old athlete revealed that the AIU accused her of violating their rules by missing three tests within a 12-month period.

Fiercely asserting her innocence, Amusan declared herself to be “a clean athlete” and expressed her determination to challenge the allegations. She also emphasized that she had been tested within days of the alleged third missed test.

In response to the charges, Amusan shared her thoughts in a written statement. “Today, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having three missed tests in 12 months,” she wrote. “I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of three arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.”

According to the AIU’s regulations, an athlete who fails to comply with drug testing procedures on three occasions within a 12-month period is considered to have committed an anti-doping rule violation.

The penalties for such violations generally include a suspension of two years, which may be reduced to a minimum of one year depending on the level of culpability.

As the case progresses, the fate of Tobi Amusan hangs in the balance. The outcome of the disciplinary proceedings, set to take place before the World Athletics Championships, will determine the athlete’s eligibility and participation in the highly anticipated event.
