Nollywood Actress, Wumi Toriola, has poured her heart out in a touching tribute dedicated to her late colleague, Murphy Afolabi.
Actor Murphy Afolabi tragically passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2023, following a fatal fall in his bathroom.
In her emotional tribute, Toriola reflected on the shock and disbelief she experienced upon hearing the news of Afolabi’s untimely demise.
She confessed to waiting anxiously for counter news that would dismiss the reports as mere rumors, hoping to hear that Afolabi had merely fainted and was revived. However, the reality of his passing set in, leaving her grief-stricken.
Wumi Toriola in her tribute to Murphy Afolabi wrote thus: “Your demise came as a rude shock. I was waiting for news to counter the death news which I did consider a rumor. I waited to hear that,” Oh Murphy fainted but he is back to life.
Fondly addressing Afolabi as “Sir Murphy,” Toriola reminisced about his gentle and kind nature, emphasizing that his presence was felt by all who encountered his work.
Afolabi’s film productions were renowned for their inclusivity, as he endeavored to give as many people as possible the opportunity to showcase their talents.
Toriola also highlighted Afolabi’s remarkable passion and dedication to his craft, stating, “Your unwavering commitment to your work was admirable.
“There were countless times when we disagreed due to your unyielding loyalty to your beliefs, wishing that others would follow suit regardless of their differing opinions.”
However, she praised his open-mindedness, emphasizing his commitment to effective communication and swift resolution of conflicts.
Regretfully, Toriola acknowledged that she had not expressed these sentiments to Afolabi while he was alive. She lamented the untimely farewell they were forced to bid each other, serving as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life.
Toriola concluded her tribute by expressing the immense loss that the Yoruba movie industry and the world, at large, would experience in the absence of Afolabi.
She fondly remembered his infectious smile, which would brighten even in response to humorous memes made in his honor. She reassured readers that although Afolabi had departed, his legacy would endure through his remarkable body of work.
