AC Milan has reportedly submitted a $15 million (£12 million) opening bid for Chelsea and USMNT star Christian Pulisic. According to The Athletic, the Italian club made a verbal offer for the winger, who they’ve identified as a primary transfer target. Pulisic has already agreed on personal terms for a move to the San Siro from Chelsea, where he remains under contract until 2024.
Previously, it was reported that Chelsea was seeking at least $26 million (£20 million) for Pulisic. However, Milan hopes to negotiate a lower price. The Rossoneri plan to reunite Pulisic with his ex-Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud, aiming to enhance their attack line-up for the next season.
Milan’s business relationship with Chelsea has been beneficial in the past, with signings like Fikayo Tomori in 2021 and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a $20 million (£15 million) deal last week. Pulisic is reportedly eager to join them at San Siro. Still, Milan faces competition from interested parties such as Newcastle and Lyon, setting the stage for a potential bidding war.
As of now, Pulisic is scheduled to report for pre-season under Chelsea’s new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, later this month. However, with Milan’s bid on the table, he may join the growing list of departures from Stamford Bridge this summer, including Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy. This comes as Chelsea aims to streamline their squad following a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.
