In a remarkable display of commitment to his inaugural speech promise, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has issued a directive to the state’s Accountant General, Mrs. Njum Onyemenam, to initiate the payment of June salaries for Abia workers. Governor Otti, who took office recently, had vowed to ensure that civil servants in the state receive their monthly salaries on or before the 28th of each month.
In a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, it was announced that Governor Otti instructed the Accountant General “to ensure that all verified workers in the state civil service receive their June salary before Wednesday, June 28, 2023.” This directive was given following a meeting between Governor Otti, the Accountant General, and other senior members of his government.
The official statement, made available to Vanguard, emphasized Governor Otti’s determination to address the salary backlog that had accumulated over several months under the previous administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. The workers of Abia State had endured a significant period of salary arrears, creating financial hardships for them and their families. However, Otti has made a solemn commitment to rectify this issue by clearing all outstanding arrears, including pension arrears, before December 31, 2023.
The timely payment of June salaries demonstrates Governor Otti’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of the state’s workers and alleviate their financial burdens. This proactive approach to governance has garnered praise from various quarters, with many expressing optimism that the new administration will bring about positive changes and a renewed sense of hope for Abia State.
Governor Alex Otti’s administration has wasted no time in taking decisive action to fulfill its promises and restore the confidence of the people. As the payment of June salaries commences, Abia workers eagerly await the realization of Governor Otti’s pledge to settle all outstanding salary and pension arrears by the end of the year.
