The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has issued a directive for the immediate prohibition of all commercial motorcyclists, commonly referred to as Okada, operating within the Umuahia and Aba metropolises.
This measure is set to bring about a significant shift in the transportation landscape of the State.
Kazie Uko, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, confirmed the implementation of this groundbreaking policy, underscoring that it is to take effect with immediate urgency.
The comprehensive statement released by the Chief Press Secretary outlined the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and security of the citizens.
“The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has directed the immediate ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists, otherwise known as Okada, within Umuahia, the State capital, and Aba Metropolis,” the statement read.
“Effective Monday, August 14, 2023, any motorcycle seen on the streets of Umuahia and Aba townships being used for such purposes will be impounded by the security agencies.
“Also, security agencies have been directed to arrest any individual caught violating this order, for possible prosecution. This directive takes immediate effect.
