Eight people who were earlier kidnapped along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway on Wednesday, September 18 have been rescued by the Operation Whirl Punch troops under 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). a reliable military source said the troops had tracked the kidnappers to where they were hiding in Labi village, Chikun Local Government Area in Kaduna State and following credible information had rescued the victims at about 5 pm on Wednesday, hours after their abduction.
The victims who were said to have been traveling from Kano to Ilorin had their journey interrupted by bandits, who kidnapped and moved them to one of their fortified hideout in the forest.
On discovering the bandits’ camp the troops had swung into action and stormed them, overwhelming the bandits with superior firepower resulting in the bandits abandoning the victims and fled with gunshot wounds.
The troops set the abductees free and asked them to continue with their journey.
General Officer Commanding, Maj.-Gen Faruk Yahaya had commended the troops as it was the second time in two weeks troops of 1 Division are rescuing kidnapped victims in the state. He urged them to keep putting pressure on criminals to make the area safe for all.
