Presidential Election Petition Court Adjourns Hearings and Bars Tinubu's Representative
Court Bars Governor Lalong from Representing Tinubu in Petition Case

The Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja has adjourned the pre-hearing sessions for several petitions related to the 2023 presidential election. The Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi, filed a petition to nullify the election victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The court has adjourned the hearing of this case until Wednesday. Similarly, the court has fixed Wednesday for another petition filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP).

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, also filed a petition challenging the election results. The court has adjourned their case until Tuesday. The court has urged all parties to identify the witness statements and documents they will rely on or object to during the actual hearing of the petitions.

Mr. Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate, was present in court to witness the proceedings. However, the court barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from representing President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. When the first petition was called up, Governor Lalong stood up and announced himself as Tinubu’s representative. The presiding justice, Justice Haruna Tsammani, led a five-member panel that declined to recognize him as Tinubu’s representative. Justice Tsammani held that an individual cannot have a representative, and Tinubu is not a corporation that would require one.
