A high court in Benue State has issued an interim injunction, restraining Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), from parading himself as the party chairman.
The order was given by Judge W.I. Kpochi on Monday, following an ex parte application by Terhide Utaan, a member of the party in Benue State.
The court issued the order as a result of an ex parte hearing, where both Ayu and the PDP were joined as respondents to the application.
However, they were not present nor represented by their lawyers in court. The judge ruled in favor of Utaan and issued an interim injunction to Ayu to refrain from parading himself as the national chair of the PDP.
This court order came just one day after Ayu’s ward, Igyorov Ward in Benue State, suspended him from the executive committee of the party.
The order subsists pending the hearing and determination of the motion.
“An order of interim injunction restraining the 1st defendant Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) having lost membership of the party, pending the hearing and determination of Motion on Notice already filed,” the order reads.
