Rangers came out victors in yesterday’s UEL semi-final clash when they hosted RB Leipzig at the Ibrox. The Scottish side started vibrantly and controlled the game for the better part of 90 minutes. James Tavernier and Glen Kamara scored first half goals to make it 2-1 to Rangers on aggregate. Nigeria international Joe Aribo was forced off due to an injury but the manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst is yet to give any update on the magnitude of the injury.
Leipzig were creating snippets of chances but nothing was coming through for the German club. Leipzig made it 2-2 on aggregate after Angelino’s delicious cross from the left wing was fired in by the red-hot Christopher Nkunku. It then seemed Leipzig were going to give a final push to win it on aggregate and book a place in the final.
Unfortunately, Rangers midfielder Lundstram made it 3-1 on the day, scoring off a corner that was played into the 18-yard box. Rangers just ran down the clock using delay tactics and playing a defensive style in the final minutes of the game. Rangers now face Frankfurt in the city of Seville in a battle that will see the winner crowned Europa League Champion.
Rangers are also looking to bolster their squad in the coming summer transfer window as they have made contact with a few midfielders, among which are Manchester United’s James Garner who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and have identified Watford winger Emmanuel Dennis as a target ahead of the new season.
