The presidential candidate for Labour Party in the 2023 poll in Nigeria, Peter Obi has picked Doyin Okupe to run as his Vice Presidential candidate.
This development appears to be a placeholder capacity to beat the Friday deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to Arise TV, a top leader of the Labour Party confirmed the party is still making wide consultations for a suitable vice-presidential candidate for Obi but that Okupe’s name was temporarily submitted.
Dr. Doyin Okupe is the current Director-General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council.
In the 2023 general elections timetable released by INEC in February, the deadline for the substitution of Presidential or Vice Presidential candidates is July 15th 2022 and some political parties are currently taking advantage of this window including the APC to name placeholder running mates.
