The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed gave the assurance in Abuja at the 17th edition of the “President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Administration Scorecard Series (2015-2023).

The Minister said that no amount of threats or challenges could prevent the scheduled election from taking place.

This statement comes in response to a recent report, attributed to an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which suggested that the 2023 elections may be cancelled or delayed due to rising insecurity in the country.

TalkGlitz had reported that the INEC said the 2023 election may be postponed or cancelled due to the rising insecurity in the country.

The Minister, however, assured that there was no cause for alarm and that the Federal Government, INEC, and security agencies were working together to ensure that the election would be peaceful and credible.

The minister said: “Let me use this opportunity to respond to inquiries from the media over a widely-circulated report, credited to an INEC official, that the 2023 general elections face a serious threat of cancellation due to insecurity.

“The position of the Federal Government remains that the 2023 elections will be held as planned. Nothing has happened to change that position.

“We are aware that INEC is working with the security agencies to ensure that the elections are successfully held across the country.

“The security agencies have also continued to assure Nigerians that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere. Therefore, there is no cause for alarm,” Mohammed stated.
