The Zamfara Police Command has restated its ban on VIP aides and escorts during the upcoming Governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 18th, 2023. In a press release issued on Friday in Gusau, the Command’s public relations officer SP Mohammed Shehu stated that the Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Command, CP Kolo Yusuf psc, has reaffirmed the Police and other Security Agencies’ commitment to enforce the order of restriction of movement directed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Election day.
The statement emphasized that the restriction of movement of individuals and vehicles will start from 12 am to 6 pm on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, except for essential services such as INEC Officials, Electoral Observers, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, among others. Furthermore, Security aides and escorts are barred from accompanying their principals and Politicians to Polling booths and collation centers during the election. Anyone found disobeying this order will be severely sanctioned.
The press release also reiterated the ban on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, covered number plates, and tinted glasses, and violators will be sanctioned appropriately. The Command is also reminding the general public of the IGP’s order banning all Quasi Security Outfits from participating in election security management.
To ensure compliance with these orders and a hitch-free election exercise, the Police and other security agencies will be conducting robust and joint confidence-building patrols. The Command has made adequate arrangements to provide watertight security to all INEC facilities, INEC Officials, and other vulnerable infrastructures domiciled within the state.
Finally, the Command appealed for continuous support and partnership from the general public in order to make the elections peaceful and successful. It is critical for citizens to comply with the orders to ensure a safe and fair election for all.
