The 2020 edition of WWE’s SummerSlam event which held on Sunday, August 23, 2020, was an action-packed show with some surprises that no one saw coming. From Randy Orton’s battle with Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship to the return of Roman Reigns, it was indeed a night to remember.

In a bid to refresh our memories and also inform those who were not privileged to watch the per-per-view event, let’s take a brief look at some of the matches that took place.

Apollo Crews vs MVP (United States Championship): Those who know the immensely talented superstar known as Apollo Crews know what to expect when his title is on the line.

Giving fans a taste of the encounter to come, the kickoff match wasn’t really anything special but Crews didn’t fail to entertain and his efforts paid off as he scored a win over his opponent to retain the title.

Bayley vs Asuka (SmackDown Women’s Championship):  Two of the best in the women’s division clashed in the second match of the night.

Thanks to an assist from fellow superstar and Sasha Banks, Bayley, Bayley emerged triumphant as she got a pinfall to remain champion.

Dominik Mysterio vs Seth Rollins (Street Fight): The son of WWE veteran Rey Mysterio put on an impressive display in his debut match in pay-per-event, looking to avenge the scorn and brutality that Rollins had dished to his family.

But the underdog’s valiant efforts weren’t enough to save him from Rollins’ stomp which eventually came and got him the victory.

Sasha Banks vs Asuka (Raw Women’s Championship): Limping from her previous match, Asuka knew she wasn’t going to face one opponent but two as all expected Bayley to make an appearance.

Despite Bayley’s interference, Asuka persevered, catching Banks in the Asuka lock and giving her no choice but to submit. In the end, Asuka stood tall as she won the title.

Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton (WWE Championship): This was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated matches of the day as The Viper hoped to silence the Irishman and get his title.

It was indeed a contest that lived up to expectations as both superstars gave it their all, with Orton doing some damage in the early goings.

The Viper attempted to turn an offensive move from McIntyre into an RKO but the latter spun it into a backslide pin for the victory.

Braun Strowman vs The Fiend (Universal Championship): This was a brutal match that saw both competitors take their brawl to the backstage arena, eventually battling back to the ring.

Two Sister Abigails from The Fiend settled it for him as Strowman failed to beat the three-count, earning the former the victory to become the new Universal Champion.

Just when he was about to celebrate the moment, an unexpected guest showed up to ruin it for him; Roman Reigns himself.

The Big Dog unleashed a devastating spear on The Fiend and pummeled him with blows to the head for good measure. Looking at the recovering Strowman, Reigns went outside and equally speared the big man, briefly holding up the title as he looked every inch as dangerous and as fit as ever.
