Working At Cross Purposes Will Not Be Condoned - Tinubu Warns Service Chiefs

During his first meeting with the service chiefs, the inspector-general of police, and heads of security agencies on Thursday, Tinubu stressed the importance of coordination and stated that any form of conflicting or colliding actions would not be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Lucky Irabor, the chief of defense staff; Farouk Yahaya, the chief of army staff; Awwal Gambo, the chief of air staff; and Isiaka Amao, the chief of naval staff.

Also present were Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police; Yusuf Bichi, the director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS); and Ahmed Abubakar, the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

During the session, Tinubu made it clear that national security had to be approached with a coordinated strategy, firmly stating his unwavering commitment to this principle.

Speaking at the end of the two-hour meeting, Babagana Mongonu, the national security adviser (NSA), addressed state house correspondents and relayed the president’s message. Mongonu emphasized that all security agencies must work together towards a common purpose, stressing that any conflicting actions would not be condoned.

“All agencies must work to achieve one single purpose. Working at cross purposes and colliding with each other is not something that he will condone,” the NSA said.

“He has made it very, very clear that all the security agencies must comply with the demands of coordination, with the demands of frequent consultations and also timely reports which must be acted on.”

The president further demanded that the security agencies devise a comprehensive blueprint to tackle the prevailing insecurity in the country.

Tinubu underscored the urgency of effecting necessary changes promptly, recognizing that time was of the essence. Additionally, he asserted that the welfare of the troops should be prioritized moving forward, emphasizing the importance of providing them with adequate provisions, equipment, motivation, and support.

With the president’s strong stance and his call for coordination and collaboration among security agencies, it is expected that a more cohesive and effective approach to national security will be adopted.

As the government intensifies efforts to address the security challenges facing the nation, the Nigerian populace eagerly awaits the implementation of these crucial changes.
