The Governor Of Rivers State, Nyesome Wike has denied suing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal over the outcome of the presidential primary.
Speaking in an interview with THISDAY on Friday, Wike said he did not authorize anyone to file a suit on his behalf.
TalkGlitz Media had earlier reported that Wike had sued Atiku; the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; and the PDP over the conduct of the presidential primary of the party that was held in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, Wike and a PDP chieftain, Newgent Ekamon, are listed as the plaintiffs. In the originating summons, the PDP is listed as the first respondent, while the Independent National Electoral Commission is the 2nd respondent. Tambuwal and Atiku are listed as the 3rd and 4th respondents, respectively.
During the PDP presidential primary Wike lost the party’s presidential ticket to Atiku after Tambuwal stepped down for the former vice-president and asked his supporters to vote for him.
While the former vice-president secured 371 votes to become PDP’s standard bearer, Wike secured 237 votes to come second. The outcome of the primary election caused division within the PDP.
Wike Speaking In the interview with THISDAY said: I don’t know anything about the so-called suit. I did not ask anyone to file any suit for me,”
“I don’t know the lawyers. Am I a kid to be filing a suit at this time? I had 14 days after the primary within which to have filed any suit. I didn’t do that then, is it two months after primary I will file a suit?
“Just yesterday they came up with the claim that I ordered my chief security officer to pull down the PDP flag in government house. This is all false, it’s all propaganda. Some people are trying to use me to win the election. Please disregard all these lies.”
