The President, Mohammadu Buhari, says other countries and financial institutions see Nigeria as credible and loan worthy which is why the country has been able to secure loans for infrastructural developments.
Buhari said creditors had full confidence that Nigeria has the capacity to utilize resources and repay loans.
The president said this while speaking at the state house in a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), in Abuja on Wednesday.
Earlier today, members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), on Wednesday, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
Matthew Kukah, Catholic bishop of Sokoto diocese, who is a critic of the Buhari administration, was part of the delegation.
Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic archbishop of Abuja, and other bishops were present.
Speaking during the events, Buhari said: “We are credible, that’s why the countries and institutions agreed to support our development with loans.”
He, however, condemned the destruction of oil facilities which slowed the generation of revenues.
The President assured the clerics that the government would be harder on saboteurs.
Buhari added that challenges faced in the past, including coups and civil war, prepared the nation for survival.
“We thank God that Nigeria is still one. We should not forget that more than a million died for the nation to survive”, he said.
