The Governor of Sokoto State, Waziri Tambuwal, has denied the claim that he resigned from his position as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors’ Forum at the party’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting held on Thursday.
It was reported that Tambuwal had also resigned from his position as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, shortly after Walid Jibrin announced that he will step down as the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT.
While Jibrin was replaced with former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara reports also indicated that Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State has been appointed as the new chairman of the Governors’ Forum.
The resignations were said to be part of the moves to reduce the number of northerners occupying top positions in the party’s hierarchy in addition to the presidential ticket being held by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Tambuwal in a statement issued on Friday signed by the Director General of the forum, CID Maduabum, denied the claim of his resignation.
“This is to inform the general public and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has not resigned as Chairman of the Forum contrary to some media reports.
“Members of the PDP GOVERNORS FORUM are working behind the scenes to resolve all contending issues concerning the Party. To this end a meeting of the Forum will soon be convened,” the statement read.
