VP Osinbajo contested for APC presidential ticket in public interest

In a recent interview with Channels Television, Laolu Akande, the spokesperson for Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, shed light on why Osinbajo contested for the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Akande, Osinbajo believed that he possessed the necessary experience, qualifications, and leadership qualities to be a good president.

Akande went on to explain that public interest was the overriding factor that led Osinbajo to contest for the presidential primaries. He pointed out that after serving as vice-president for eight years, Osinbajo had acquired a level of understanding of what needed to be done in Nigeria and had demonstrated the capacity to lead when he had the opportunity to act for the president.

Akande also noted that Osinbajo’s leadership style had inspired tens of millions of Nigerians, who saw him as a representation of a new Nigeria. Given all of these factors, Osinbajo felt compelled to take the step he believed was in the best interest of the people by contesting for the APC’s presidential ticket.

It is worth noting that Osinbajo ultimately lost the APC presidential primaries to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. However, the APC went on to win the February 25th presidential election, with Tinubu defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

In conclusion, Akande’s interview highlights Osinbajo’s commitment to serving the public and his belief that he had what it takes to be a good president. Despite not winning the APC’s presidential ticket, Osinbajo continues to serve as the vice-president of Nigeria, working tirelessly to improve the lives of Nigerians.
