According to recent reports, there was a contentious situation at polling unit 023 FHA Festac, where voters were adamant that INEC officials should not leave until the result of the polling unit was uploaded on the INEC server. The voters, who were present in large numbers, even refused to allow INEC officials to upload the result offline, as they believed that the result of the previous presidential election, which was posted offline, was doctored when it was announced.
At the polling unit, under the governorship, the Labour Party (LP) scored 74 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 13 and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored 4. The situation escalated to the point where an official had to call the police and customs troopers to try and calm the angry voters. However, even their presence couldn’t quell the voters’ frustration.
As of 5:30 pm, the officials were still attempting to upload the result while various interventions were being made to allow them to upload it offline. It is unclear at this time what the outcome will be, but tensions are still running high at the polling unit. It is hoped that the situation will be resolved peacefully and that the integrity of the electoral process will be maintained.
