A United States former Police Officer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting and killing her neighbor.
Amber Guyver, 31, shot and killed Botham Jean, 26, inside his own apartment in Dallas. She argued that she mistakenly thought she was in her own flat and that he was an intruder. She eventually admitted she shot “an innocent man”. Jean was sitting on his sofa when the ex-cop had burst in and fired at him.
A native of the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia, the late Botham Jean worked at financial services firm, Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) as an accountant up until his death.
Jean’s brother, Brandt, said the shooter was someone he loved, adding that he didn’t want her to go to jail because he didn’t wish anything bad on her. He had hugged her and they had shared a long embrace.
Guyger, who had served in the police force for four years, hadn’t been allowed to testify during the sentencing hearing.
