Rescue Operations Ongoing After Building Collapse on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin
Several students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been reported trapped after a storey building collapsed on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin, an area heavily populated by students in Benin City, Edo State. The incident occurred following a heavy downpour on Saturday morning.
According to Sahara Reporters, rescue operations are currently underway, with a university rescue team already extracting some of the trapped occupants, though many of them sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
One of the students, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that while several victims have been rescued, one individual remains trapped under the rubble. The trapped victim reportedly managed to make a phone call from within the collapsed building, pleading for help. Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue them.

The Dean of Students from UNIBEN is on-site, coordinating the rescue mission alongside the university’s emergency team. As of now, the university management has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of students affected by the incident.
