In a recent announcement, Twitter revealed that TweetDeck, a widely used program that enables users to monitor multiple accounts simultaneously, will only be accessible to “verified” users.
The implementation of this change is scheduled to take place within 30 days, according to the company’s statement.
Twitter announced through a tweet that outlined an upgraded version of TweetDeck, boasting several new features. However, it remains unclear whether Twitter intends to charge users for both the new and old iterations of the platform.
Having been introduced over a decade ago, TweetDeck operates by displaying messages in columns, offering distinct search and posting functionalities that differ from both the website and the app versions of Twitter.
Twitter initially purchased the London-based company, TweetDeck, in 2011, with technology media estimating the acquisition price at $40 million at the time.
This announcement comes on the heels of Elon Musk’s recent statement regarding the imposition of posting limits for both verified and unverified users, as a means to combat extensive data scraping and system manipulation.
Musk’s declaration triggered a vehement backlash from Twitter users, while advertising experts expressed concerns that it could undermine the position of the new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who assumed her role just last month.
