Popular rap star Travis Scott has announced that he will be donating $1m to one hundred black students selected from different universities around the United States. Travis made this known through his media announcer on his Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund yesterday, stating that the fund was to ensure the students will not face any hitches upon their graduation and give them an easy clearance.
The Scholarship Fund is broken down into detail; each student selected for this project will receive $10k for the facilitation of their graduation and the students finished with a 3.5 GPA or higher in order to qualify for the scholarship fund.
Among the various students is Chisom Okwor of Fisk University who majors in computer science and is set to graduate this year. Ms. Okwor intends to use her knowledge to aid under-developed and developing economies in Africa using her knowledge of computer science, digital marketing, blockchain technology, and the like. Okwor is of Nigerian descent and it is her desire to help out in mending one of Africa’s largest economies.
Jordan Webster, Travis’ sister is the one managing the scholarship fund and she also graduated earlier this year from the acclaimed Howard University, and Travis has often said he is proud of her and her endeavours to graduate from college.
The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund is part of Travis’ Project HEAL and has gained over $5.5m in earmarks as of recent. Project HEAL was designed as a philanthropic project masterminded by Travis Scott after the tragic Astroworld tragedy, where 10 people lost their lives at the concert on November 10, 2021.
Travis Scott has been received warmly by many fans who earlier criticized him after the Astroworld incident in light of his latest donations to the 100 students set to graduate from college. Travis’ legal representatives are confident of overturning all the allegations leveled against him after the Astroworld tragedy.
Travis Scott recently performed at the Billboard Music Awards and he also did a gig in Coachella, as well as in a Miami nightclub a few days ago. It is safe to say that Travis is finding his feet again after nearly six months of laying low and trying to clear his head over the devastating tragedy in Texas that fateful November day.
