Dnipro, Ukraine – In a devastating turn of events, two individuals are feared dead and 23 others have been injured as Russia launched a missile attack on a medical clinic located in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro. This recent escalation in Russian strikes comes as tensions rise ahead of an anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive.
According to the BBC, 21 of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, with three of them in serious condition. Tragically, among the wounded are two young boys, aged three and six, as confirmed by the regional governor, Serhiy Lysak.
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, took to social media to share a video of the damaged clinic, showcasing firefighters at the scene and smoke billowing from the building. Zelensky expressed his outrage, stating, “Russian terrorists once again confirm their status of fighters against everything humane and honest.”
Governor Lysak revealed that the region faced a “mass attack…with missiles and drones” on Thursday night, describing the situation as a challenging and distressing night for the people of Dnipro. The BBC verified the authenticity of the footage posted on social media by Ukrainian authorities, confirming that it depicted the hospital in Dnipro engulfed in flames.
Ukrainian authorities reported successfully intercepting and shooting down 17 missiles and 31 drones launched from Russia during the overnight attacks. Multiple missiles and drones targeted not only Dnipro but also the eastern city of Kharkiv, including an oil depot. Even Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, experienced the wrath of the strikes, with officials revealing that fragments of intercepted drones landed on the roof of a shopping center, while a house and several cars sustained damage.
Meanwhile, in Russia, a blast caused damage to a residential and office building in the southern city of Krasnodar, located east of Crimea. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that the blast resulted from two Ukrainian drones but emphasized that critical infrastructure remained unaffected and, fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The Belgorod region of Russia, which recently witnessed an unprecedented incursion from Ukrainian territory, was also targeted overnight. The village of Kozinka bore the brunt of the attacks, enduring over 130 strikes, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Regrettably, one woman sustained injuries during the onslaught. Governor Gladkov highlighted that the Graivoron district, where the incursion took place, experienced the most severe attacks.
As the conflict between Ukraine and Russia escalates further, the international community remains concerned about the deepening human toll and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
