Tottenham Hotspur Bolsters Squad with Acquisition of Israeli Forward Manor Solomon

In a surprising move, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club announced the signing of Israeli forward Manor Solomon on a free transfer from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. The deal was finalized on Tuesday, following Solomon’s impressive loan stint with Fulham.

The 23-year-old striker was able to terminate his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk due to the recent extension of FIFA’s temporary employment rules related to the ongoing war. FIFA’s provision allows foreign players contracted to clubs affiliated with Ukrainian or Russian football associations to unilaterally suspend their employment until June 30, 2024, provided they inform their teams of the suspension in writing by July 1.

Manor Solomon’s previous terms with Shakhtar were set to expire on December 31, enabling him to exercise his right to suspend his current employment and become a free agent. After passing a medical examination earlier this week, he signed a lucrative five-year deal with Tottenham, becoming Ange Postecoglou’s fourth signing of the season.

The winger, who boasts 35 international caps for Israel, caught the attention of Tottenham scouts during his loan spell with Fulham last season. Despite recovering from a serious knee injury that delayed his full debut until January, Solomon showcased his immense potential, contributing five goals in 24 appearances. Fulham finished the Premier League season in a commendable 10th place.

Tottenham’s acquisition of Solomon follows their recent signings of Dejan Kulusevski, whose loan move from Juventus was made permanent, as well as Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and English midfielder James Maddison. These acquisitions highlight Tottenham’s commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

In an intriguing turn of events, Solomon could face his former club Shakhtar Donetsk sooner than expected. It was announced last month that Tottenham would host the Ukrainian champions in a friendly match scheduled for August 6. The encounter could provide an opportunity for Solomon to showcase his skills against his former teammates and make an early impression at his new club.

Tottenham fans eagerly await the official debut of Manor Solomon in their iconic white jersey, as they hope his arrival will bolster the team’s attacking prowess and contribute to their quest for success in the upcoming season.
