President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart for Paris, France on Thursday to participate in a summit aimed at forging a new global financial pact.
The two-day summit, which will take place on June 22 and 23, intends to explore avenues to restore fiscal stability to countries grappling with immediate financial challenges.
In a statement released on Monday, Dele Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, disclosed the details of the proposed trip.
Alake highlighted that the financial pact prioritizes assistance to vulnerable nations severely impacted by the triple crises of climate change, the energy crisis, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Accompanying President Tinubu to the summit will be members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and other high-ranking government officials.
“The President will participate in the two-day Summit, June 22 and 23, that looks at opportunities to restore fiscal space to countries that face difficult short-term financial challenges, especially the most indebted countries,” the statement reads.
“The summit will mobilize innovative financing for countries vulnerable to climate change; foster development in low-income countries, and encourage investment in “green” infrastructure for the energy transition in emerging and developing economies.
“President Tinubu and the other global leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists will take a more holistic look at the recovery of economies from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and rising cases of poverty, with a view to providing access to finance and investment that will leverage inclusive growth.”
President Tinubu’s participation in this summit marks his inaugural official trip abroad since assuming the role of Nigeria’s President on May 29.
The visit to France is anticipated to foster international collaboration and provide Nigeria with a platform to articulate its stance on crucial global financial matters.
President Tinubu is slated to return to the country on Saturday following the conclusion of the summit.
