Teni, one of the most distinctive and captivating voices in the music industry, is taking a bold new direction with her latest club-ready single, ‘No Days Off.’ The track, set to be released on May 12th under the Platoon label, showcases Teni’s reflection on her journey thus far, emphasizing the importance of a strong support system, diligence, persistence, and consistency as she gears up for her busiest year yet.
‘No Days Off’ exudes an uplifting and energetic vibe, blending vibrant Afropop percussion with ethereal synth melodies and Teni’s versatile vocals that effortlessly traverse across genres. The song originated from a freestyle session when Teni stumbled upon a captivating beat while visiting a friend’s house, instantly capturing her attention.
The creation of ‘No Days Off’ was a global endeavor, with different stages of production taking place in various locations worldwide. The song has already garnered significant attention both online and offline, gaining considerable buzz during Odunsi (The Engine)’s Lagos Concert.
Explaining the song’s genesis, Teni shares, “No Days Off’ was made everywhere in the world – that’s why it truly is called ‘No Days Off.’ It was made in Lagos, it was made in LA, and some parts of it were also made in Cape Town.”
She further expresses her affection for the song, stating, “I love this song, it means so much to me, and I’m certain that each of you will also find your own meaning in it.”
Within the lyrics of ‘No Days Off,’ Teni makes references to her love for basketball, teasing her presence at the upcoming Atlanta Hawks game. Additionally, she gives a shout-out to her friends and hometowns, stating, “I’ve been shooting hoops on the court with no days off. And you know I put my life on the line and it paid off. Just imagine if I didn’t leave Atlanta for Lagos / Tobi, Bunmi, Brenda & Wale, that’s my day ones.”
After the success of her collaboration with Mayorkun, Ch’cco, and the late Costa Titch on the hit track ‘MAITAMA (Going)’ last year, Teni once again showcases her stylistic range and melodic prowess in her latest single.
Earlier this year, Teni made her debut on COLORS, a popular music platform, and was featured on Stormzy’s latest album, ‘This Is What I Mean.’ She has also collaborated with renowned artists such as Wizkid and Davido.
Teni has built a reputation for delivering uplifting and stylistically eclectic songs that distinguish her from her Afro-pop counterparts. She initially rose to prominence in 2018, capturing millions of streams with songs like ‘Case.’ In 2019, she released her debut EP, ‘Billionaire.’
The same year, Teni received nominations for the BET Award for Best New International Act and the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act. She continued to make waves in the music scene by teaming up with DJ Neptune for the collaborative EP ‘The Quarantine Playlist’ in the following year. Finally, in 2021, Teni’s highly acclaimed LP, ‘WONDALAND,’ was released, coinciding with her decision to go independent.
With the release of ‘No Days Off,’ Teni solidifies her position as an exceptional talent and promises to captivate audiences worldwide with her infectious energy and unmatched musical prowess.
