Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that he is anticipating a challenging game against Tottenham on Thursday after their crushing defeat to Newcastle. Spurs’ 6-1 loss led to the sacking of their acting head coach Christian Stellini, who was in charge for less than a month after replacing Antonio Conte. Ryan Mason has since been appointed as their caretaker boss.

Despite being six points ahead of Tottenham in fourth place, Manchester United are taking nothing for granted. The team is still eyeing a Cup double after winning the League Cup earlier this season and securing a FA Cup semi-final penalty shoot-out win over Brighton at Wembley on Sunday.

Ten Hag acknowledged that his team has had to recover from some disappointing results this season, but noted that all great teams experience setbacks. He said at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, “Definitely (more than I would like) but it happens with all the great teams, even Real Madrid, eh?”

While Tottenham may be fueled by their recent loss, Ten Hag insisted that his team will be hungry for the win. “An opponent can never be more hungry than we (are), so that is how we have to prepare the game,” he said. Manchester United is determined to bounce back from their own defeats and show their hunger on the pitch.
