Former Bayern Munich reserve player, Riccardo Basta, has labeled Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag a “dictator”. Ten Hag spent two years coaching the Bayern Munich reserve team from 2013 to 2015 before moving to Utrecht, Ajax, and eventually, United. During this time, he came across Basta, who has since revealed the problems that arose while being managed by the United boss.

In a recent interview with Sport 1, Basta shared his experience of being managed by Ten Hag. He claimed that false promises were made to him and he was laughed at. Basta stated that after his first contract extension, Ten Hag told him that he was counting on him and that there was a plan for him to become a link between the first and second team and occasionally be in the squad. However, nothing came of it.

Basta said, “Personally, I did not have a good relationship with Ten Hag. He was almost a dictator. He had a plan and we players had to follow it.”

Basta had spent five years in the Bayern academy set-up and eventually left the club in 2017.
