The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Caretaker Committee.
Consequently, the court sacked Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff who had won the Appeal court case on the same matter and was recognised as the PDP’s chairman by law up till this morning’s judgement. Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi’s Caretaker Committee was adjudged to have been properly constituted at the Port Harcourt convention held by the Party by the Supreme Court.
Reacting to the judgement of the Supreme court, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce posted on his website:
We are happy this nightmare is over. There is no victor no vanquished. This is also, not a time to gloat. I call on all sides to stretch out a hand of brotherhood to rebuild our great party. Peace is better than war and unity, better than division. This judgement is indeed a victory for democracy and together, the PDP can return to being a formidable alternative to the ruling government.
