The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will have to wait until next month to hear the outcome of his appeal, following the Supreme Court’s decision to adjourn the case on Thursday.
According to a tweet by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the case to a later date. Ejimakor expressed disappointment in the decision and stated that the matter should have been concluded on that day.
Kanu had filed an appeal at the Supreme Court on November 3, 2022, challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision to prevent his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The self-determination activist was appealing against the Court of Appeal’s decision of October 28, 2022, which had stayed the execution of its earlier ruling, which had acquitted him of all charges and ordered his immediate release from the custody of the secret police.
Kanu’s Special Counsel had earlier urged the Supreme Court to ensure that justice is done in the case and called for the matter to be resolved promptly. The case will now continue at a later date.
