Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro has handed invitations to three players of the Super Eagles; namely Innocent Bonke, Terem Moffi, and Adebayo Adeleye to replace Emmanuel Dennis, Sadiq Umar, and Maduka Okoye.
Emmanuel Dennis is currently injured and has been down for the past month, missing Watford’s last four matches of the season and his unavailability has resulted in Terem Moffi getting called up just four days to the match against Mexico. Sadiq Umar is currently still engaged in club football in the Spanish Segunda division with Almera and he will not play a part in the friendlies. However, he may be called up in June as Nigeria begins preparations for the AFCON 2023.
Adebayo Adeleye was invited to the squad following the injury case of Maduka Okoye, who sustained a strain with his club Sparta Rotterdam. The 22-year-old has been the Super Eagles’ mainstay goalie in the last few years and the injury will keep him out away from the Eagles for the first time in a very long time.
Adeleye plies his trade in the Israeli Premier League with Hapoel Jerusalem. The 22-year-old is the club’s first-choice man between the sticks and the call-up to the national team is one he will definitely grab with both gloves.
The Super Eagles will play Mexico in an international friendly on Sunday at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. They will then face Ecuador on June 3 at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison. A total of twenty-five players will travel whilst the remaining five that were dropped were done so due to visa processing and not on performance-related grounds.
