Sony has announced the price and release date of PlayStation 5, the successor to the PlayStation 4.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, and the company disclosed that the PS5 will start at $399.99, competing directly with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X game consoles.
The digital edition of the PS5 (which does not have a disc drive) will cost $399.99 while the regular version of the console will cost $499.99.
Sony will release both the regular PS5 with a disc drive and a PS5 Digital Edition that can only download and stream games.
According to the company, the PS5 will launch in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea on November 12, 2020, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020.
The launch date for China is still under exploration and will be announced at a later time.
