The Leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Jelani Danbuga, also a former chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
This was contained in a statement by Malam Bashar Abubakar, the Special Assistant to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto) on New Media, in Abuja on Monday.
Abubakar disclosed that Wamakko, who is also the leader of the party in the State, received Danbuga into the APC fold on Saturday in Sokoto.
Wamakko described the defection of Danbuga as a “welcome development and promised, he would be carried along like an APC member at all the times.”
He said that Danbuga was accompanied by Alhaji Yawale Sarkin-Baki, the APC Chairman, Sabon Birni Local Government, and a former Commissioner in Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmad Barade, among other chieftains of the party.
The report comes after the APC reportedly lost the Speaker, Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Achida, and three gubernatorial aspirants to the PDP in the state.
The defectors were received by Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, on Sunday in Sokoto.
The gubernatorial aspirants who defected to the PDP were former Minister of Sports Yusuf Suleiman, Alhaji Abubakar Gumbi, and serving Rep. Balarabe Salame.
Some of the personalities who defected alongside included Rep. Yusuf Kurdula, Sen. Bello Gada, state Assemblyman Murtala Maigona, serving National Commissioner in the Public Complaints Commission, and Sen. Jibril Gada.
