The Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, has donated a fully equipped building to Baptist Grammar School, Idi-Ishin, Ibadan, Oyo State, his alma mater.

The newly commissioned facility boasts a mini-conference room, staff toilets, a Home Economics laboratory, and accommodation for corps members deployed to the school. It aims to enhance both teaching and learning environments for the school community.

Commissioning Ceremony

The building was officially commissioned on Thursday, September 14, 2024, during a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including members of the Baptist Grammar School Idi-Ishin Old Students Association, school staff, representatives of the Oyo State Ministry of Education, students, and SIFAX Group delegates.

Speaking at the event, Afolabi, represented by SIFAX Group’s Group Coordinating Director, Mrs. Wunmi Eniola-Jegede, emphasized the significance of giving back to society and investing in future generations.

“Education is the foundation of any prosperous society. Every great society is built on the dreams and aspirations of young people—dreams that need nurturing and a conducive environment to thrive,” Afolabi said.

He added that the project was not merely about constructing a building but about instilling hope and fostering a sense of purpose among students.

“My commitment to this project goes beyond building infrastructure; it’s about hope and impact. It’s about ensuring that no child feels limited by their circumstances and giving back to a community that gave so much to me,” he stated.

A Valuable Contribution

The principal of Baptist Grammar School, Mr. Eyitayo Bamidele, described the donation as a timely intervention that would serve as a “utility building” for both staff and students.

“This building is a timely and valuable contribution that will greatly support teaching and learning. We deeply appreciate Dr. Afolabi and SIFAX Group for their unwavering support throughout the project,” Bamidele said.

He noted that Afolabi’s immediate receptiveness to the idea of the building donation and swift funding made the project a reality.

Alumni Support Encouraged

Mrs. Jaiyeola Lewis, President of the Baptist Grammar School Idi-Ishin Old Students Association, praised Afolabi’s gesture and called on other alumni to contribute toward the school’s development.

“While government efforts are commendable, we must recognize that the government cannot do it alone,” she said.

Lewis also assured stakeholders that plans are in place to ensure the building’s maintenance and long-term utility for the school.

Corporate Social Responsibility

This initiative reflects SIFAX Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development. The company has consistently supported projects aimed at creating a sustainable impact in education and other sectors.

The new building is already operational and is expected to inspire students and staff alike, reinforcing the importance of partnerships in advancing educational standards.
